Working withChinese Papercuts
|
Thank you for your interest in Chinese
papercuts! Over the years, many
customers have asked me how to apply the delicate papercuts to a scrapbook page
or greeting card. It is a little
tricky, if you haven’t done it before!
You would want to use an acid-free spray
adhesive. The kind I use is by Elmers but a product called “Scrappers Spray”
is also popular. You should be able
to find either in your local scrapbook store, a major craft retailer, or a
discount store like Wal-Mart if it has a craft department. With the spray adhesive, you turn the papercut over on a
sheet of wax paper and spray the back (very very lightly from about 8 to 10
inches away) then turn the papercut back over and place it where you want it.
It takes a little getting used to... if
you spray the adhesive too thick, it gets tacky, sticks to your fingers (and
likewise the papercut sticks to your fingers) and then you can't place it where
you want. I would suggest cutting tissue paper in small strips and practice on
something prior to attempting it on your first real paper cut. Once you get the
hang of it, it is much easier.
One other thing I've tried recently and
that works well is that instead of placing it upside down on wax paper, suspend
one edge of it hanging on a toothpick and spray the back of it in the air before
turning it over and placing it where you want it. That way, your fingers don't
have to touch it prior to mounting, reducing the likelihood that it sticks to
your fingers. Only use the
toothpick once, though, or it would stick to the toothpick! :)
Hope that helps!
